My Oh My, How Time Flies
It seems like just yesterday we were waiting for the arrival of R . And now, it's 2 and half months later. Where did the time go? (Oh wait, I remember... lots of feeding, lots of diapers being changed, not much sleeping and an increasing number of time-outs for E.)
Here's a quick "end of the year" (It's the end of the year already... crazy, I know!) update for the Silly Spencer Four:
- R is out of the sleepy stage and very alert when she is awake. She's also gaining more and more neck control and looking less like a bobble head baby and more a very interested infant. She is also smiling when talked to and coos at us. She can often be seen craning her neck for a better view of Mommy, Daddy or E (and when she does see us she'll track us across the room).
- E is putting even more words together to make almost complete sentences (or maybe they're more like ungrammatical sentences). For instance she told me "Hat. Jacket. Next Time.", which translates as "Next time I'll wear the jacket with the hood." Not bad for a two year old huh? Of course along with better communication skills comes the two year old "blazing out on her own" - meaning she wants to do things by herself, wants things done her way (now!) and also has her own opinion... which sometime leads to a time-out.
- E is in love with her "baby Bekah". That what she calls her. E constantly wants to hold her, kiss her, hug her, wipe her nose, give her a pacifier, comfort her and make her stop crying, change her diaper and generally help in whatever we're doing with R . This is sometimes great, as a big sister helper, and sometimes not so great, as when she gets her halfway up and almost drops her while R is wailing in pain/discomfort.
- I (Gilda) think I am finally finding a routine that works for both girls eating, napping, feeding and playing. Everyone in the family is generally happy and I'm getting some sleep, although I'll always take more.
- Ian is trying to get as much done on his dissertation as possible and is finishing another chapter as we speak. He's also in the waiting-to-hear phase of applying for jobs for next fall. So far no interviews lined up. Hopefully he'll have some while he is in Philadelphia for the Eastern Division American Philosophical Association meeting and then in the upcoming year get some call backs for fly-outs and then some job offers. There will also, hopefully, be a lot of good productive dissertation writing in the upcoming year as he needs to pretty much be done by March (even if he wants to graduate by June).
